Tips on how to to be comfortable when flying

Flying is long and boring, but necessary when you want to travel the world.  IF you are a backpacker who wants to fly in comfort to your Sydney Backpackers (and make those long flights go a little more quickly) then we have some flying tips to make your journey more enjoyable!

Flying doesn’t have to be a difficult experience. There are many ways to help the hours fly by. The most important thing is being comfortable. Nobody wants to have to unbutton their jeans for 14 hours to feel relaxed. So put on those comfy leggings, sweat pants or even pyjamas, grab your neck pillow and blanket, and try to sleep a few hours to be refreshed when you land on the ground. Sleeping is by far one of the best ways to pass a few hours of travel time. Some airlines even offer overnight flights so you can get a full nights rest in the air.

Bringing a book or magazine is another great way to pass travel time. Rather than staring at the back of the seat in front of you why not get lost in a good story? Even better, find a travel or history book on the destination you are headed to so you can arrive with a little knowledge on the area. Knowing some facts about where you are going can really impress the locals and is also a good conversation topic for other backpackers. Music and movies are other great ways to pass a few hours. Most airlines offer movies on long flights but it’s always a good idea to bring your own headphones just in case they charge a fee for theirs.

Make sure to bring plenty of snacks for your trip. Although the airline will provide some snacks (and possibly meals) it’s always good to have food available at your leisure so you don’t have to wait for snack time in the air. It’s also wise to bring an empty water bottle with you through airport security so that you can fill it before boarding your plane.

If possible, try to keep carry-on luggage to a minimum. That way you will have plenty of foot room in front of you to stretch out and you won’t have to worry about finding adequate space in the overhead bins. Keeping stress levels to a low on flights most certainly makes travelling more enjoyable and too much baggage isn’t good for anyone.

Another way to keep yourself relaxed is to give yourself plenty of time at the airport for check-in and security. There is nothing worse than having to run down airport terminals to get to a flight on time (or even worse hearing your name paged on the intercom as a last call to board). Hopefully, these tips will help you stay happy and relaxed on your flight so you can feel refreshed and ready for adventure while backpacking in Sydney.
