Top Free things to do in Sydney (Part 2)

There are many things to do in Sydney- it really is an amazing city for Backpackers! In Part 2 of the series, Meaghan, a backpacker in Sydney, shares even more free and fun things to do in the city. If you are backpacking in Sydney and have limited time and money this is the video for you!

Australia is known for its beautiful beaches and pristine waters. Take advantage of the coastal access by having the snorkelling experience of a lifetime! The best part about it, jumping in the ocean is absolutely free! Many Sydney hostels, like The Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney, even rent snorkelling equipment out free of charge (because we know you’d rather use that extra space in your suitcase for sunscreen and bikinis!) Our favourite place for snorkelling is Clovelly beach. The calm, lifeguard protected water, is a safe place for both amateur and professional snorkelers.

After checking out what’s in the water, why not explore the beautiful beach views by doing the Bondi to Coogee walk. You’ll pass Clovelly, Bondi, Coogee and Tamarama beaches. This is a fun (and free) way to see some of Sydney’s most famous beaches and you’ll burn a few calories in the process. It’s a win-win!

Another favourite free hangout for backpackers in Sydney is Hyde park. It is Australia’s oldest park and is centrally located right in the heard of the CBD. It has many activities going on throughout the year and makes for a great picnic spot. Make sure to check out the Archibald fountain and pay tribute to Australia’s fallen soldiers at the Anzac Memorial.

Lastly, you can’t visit Sydney without checking out the famous Sydney Harbor Bridge.  Every backpacker needs to walk across the bridge during their stay, so after you leave Hyde park, take a stroll across the bay for a spectacular (and free) view of the city. This walk is especially beautiful at night when the city lights twinkle on either side of the harbour. It also has one of the best views of the Sydney Opera House.

We hope this video has given you another fabulous week of sight seeing ideas and look forward to seeing you in Sydney. Make sure to check out the other videos in this three-part series of free things to do in Sydney.
