Towels
Few youth hostels provide towels for your use, and sometimes they are available for rent. However, it's best to bring your own towel. Although it very rarely happens, some youth hostels will actually run out of hire towels due to high demand, so it's a good idea to keep a backup towel on standby. Also note that youth hostels do not provide toiletries, so be sure to pack your own set of bathroom products; shower shoes also are a great idea.
Bed Linen
Any quality youth hostel will provide you with standard bed linen, in the form of sheets (or sometimes a sheet-style sleeping bag), a duvet blanket and a normal-sized pillow. Some guests staying at youth hostels who are concerned about hygiene prefer to bring their own bed linen and pillow case. Most youth hostels will let you use their cleaning facility to wash your own bed linen, just check with the manager beforehand.
Padlock
Although most youth hostels have security boxes and safes ready for use or hire, these are only typically used for smaller expensive items, like jewellery and mobile phones. It's therefore a smart idea to bring your own padlock, in order to lock up your bag locked up safe inside your room.
Cooking Utensils
The majority of youth hostels provide cooking facilities that come complete with a standard set of cooking utensils and associated equipment. However, when large groups of guests staying at the youth hostel are cooking it can often be hard to find the utensil you want to use. If you can fit it in, it's recommended that each guest bring their own set of cutlery, mug and a plate, although it's not essential.
