THIS WEEK AT THE JOLLY SWAGMAN:
Finally our gorgeous new reception area is finished! We are sure that all guests will appreciate the new service area as much as we love working in it, as well as now having a larger dining area.
Did you know that staff now register all SIM CARDS before your arrival? For your convenience, Jolly staff will have a mobile sim included in your welcome pack pre registered with all of your name and details so all you have to do on arrival is whack it in your handset and away you go! Remember that the welcome pack also includes beer and food vouchers, as well as membership to one of Sydney's top job websites, please come to reception at any time if you want assistance with setting up your account or searching for work.
THIS WEEK IN SYDNEY:
On Monday 26th April Australians will celebrate one of their most important public holidays, ANZAC Day. A day of rememberance for all those Australian servicemen and women who lost their lives in battles around the world, it is marked each year on the anniversary of the Australian Light Horse Brigade's landing at Gallipoli in 1915 (during world war one). This year, as every year, the ceremony will be marked with a dawn service at Martin Place from approximately 4:30am (or just before sunrise). Parades will follow in the CBD with veterans marching down George St to the Town Hall.
This proves to be a spectacular and fascinating cultural spectacle for guests wanting to understand more about Australian history, values and people; and it is certainly worth attending if you can make it up that early (many stay up the whole night, but remember if you go after a "big one" to keep your decorum appropriate). Keeping with the traditions, the Swagman will be organising a game of "Two Ups", a traditional game developed by the ‘diggers' in the trenches. Meet outside the hostel at noon for this.
SYDNEY WEATHER:
Cloudy today (Sunday) but still topping a balmy 22 degrees celcius. Rain is forecasted for Sunday, clearing on Tuesday for a pretty much cloudy week with tops of 18 degrees celcius.
DID YOU KNOW?:
For those who cannot quite afford to do the Sydney Harbour Bridge "Bridge Climb", you can also do the pylon climb for a fraction of the price, which affords equally spectacular views. If you climb it think of the French man who once in the 1970's illegally set up a tightrope across the two structures and walked across without safety!
