THIS WEEK AT THE JOLLY SWAGMAN:
Renovations continue steadfast in our pursuit of upgrading our hostel's facilities for your comfort! Most noticeably this week the toilets in the common area are shut off for reconstruction, as well as several dorm rooms and corridors for fresh painting.
An important new policy was passed by staff this week in relation to alcohol. Due to recent problems caused by anti-social drinking that are starting to cause the hostel much reputational and fiscal damage, the Jolly Swagman is now an ALCOHOL FREE ZONE between the hours of 3AM AND 12 NOON. Drinking will not be tolerated at all during these times, and infringers will be immediately evicted without refund. Anti-Social behaviour, refusing direction from staff and excessive drinking/passing out will not be tolerated either.
Please remember that this policy is not out to prevent guests from having a good time, staff are always trying to make guests experience's as positive as possible. But whilst drinking is part of the backpacker experience, exceeding what is reasonable makes other guests uncomfortable and the staff's job difficult.
Remember that the Jolly is located in Kings Cross, Sydney's (and Australia's!) largest nightlife hub. Staff are always happy to recommend one of hundreds of bars open late in the area, and entertainment is organised by the hostel nightly. Contact reception for more details!
THIS WEEK IN SYDNEY:
With rain forecasted for just about every day this week, why not think about some indoorsy activities. Fancy a night out at the theatre? Why not check out the smash broadway hit musical "Wicked" which is on in Sydney at the Capital Theatre after great success in London, New York and Melbourne. Or, for something more chilled and low key, head over the the Roxbury Hotel in Glebe on a Tuesday night for open mic comedy- $10 at the door. This author did so last month and can safely say it was a great night out- don't for get to hit up the trendy bars in Glebe (try the Ancient Britain or the Different Drummer) and Newtown (Zanzibar, the Courthouse) after- these are the some of the best sub cultural hubs Sydney has to offer!
SYDNEY WEATHER:
Partly cloudy on Sunday with, sadly, rain developing and falling for every day during the week (well, at least that's what's forecasted!). Minimums 12 degrees, tops 22 Celsius.
DID YOU KNOW?:
Indigenous Australians make up just 0.6 per cent of Sydney's population- not much at all, as many are sociologically deprived in many urban areas- the majority live in the Outback or Red Centre, where their amazing culture and heritage is best experienced. Contact reception for travel information should you be interested in experiencing the Aboriginal culture in the outback.
