THIS WEEK AT THE JOLLY SWAGMAN BACKPACKERS SYDNEY HOSTEL:

The Jolly Swagman has had a very busy past couple of weeks as it approaches the slow emergence of the high season as that gorgeous Sydney weather gets warmer by the day.

Recently, the hostel has frequently been booked out for many nights- a reminder for both guests AND long-termers to ensure they extend accordingly to avoid disappointment and pesky room changes!

The Jolly Swagman Sydney hostel is currently trialing a new system in the kitchen in an effort to tackle people not cleaning up after their dinner! All kitchen items including crockery, cups, cutlery and cooking utensils must now be obtained from reception and returned clean. Please show consideration towards fellow backpackers and Hostel staff by cleaning up after yourself!

THIS WEEK IN SYDNEY:

2009 COFA SRPING FAIR: The University of New South Wales' College of Fine Arts, arguably the leading school of fine arts in the southern hemisphere, will host its annual free spring fair with inspiringly kooky artworks and fun filled activities all day. 19th September, COFA, Oxford St. Only fifteen minutes walk from the Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney Hostel!

OPEN MIC JAZZ/ LATIN SESSIONS @ BAR ME. This Monday night get yourself down to Bar Me (aka El Rocco) for their fortnightly evening of Hispanic tunes and culture. Full of creative Jazz, Cuban son, Brazilian bossanova, a bit of blues, tango, Latin boleros, salsa, French chansons, and a little poetry and acapela! 154 Brougham St (near corner 230 William Street). Just three minutes away from the Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney Hostel.

What better way to celebrate Mexican National Independence Day than with FIVE DOLLAR BURRITOS (!) from Guzman y Gomez, Kings Cross. Wednesday 16th September. For one day only!

SYDNEY SPORTS:

Lacking in Fitness? Why not join a Gym? There are plenty in the area, and staff are always keen to recommend one nearby as well as a selection of public swimming pools. Otherwise, there are also these activities:

LEARN TO ROW: Every Sunday afternoon at the North Shore Rowing Club, Longueville. An amazing way to explore the harbour, meet people and REALLY build those abs. Contact reception for more details.

SYDNEY WEATHER:

Very hot over the weekend (tops of 30 degrees on Sunday!). Mainly Sunny for the rest of the week, average of 25 degrees, possible shower on Tuesday.

SYDNEY TIP OF THE WEEK:

Make sure you don't miss Australia's largest and most exciting kite flying festival this year, which promises to be a great day out for everyone!
