Anzac Day Sydney - 25 April
Australians consider Anzac Day to be one of the most important national occassions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australia and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The soliders proudly became known at ANZACS (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps).
Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney guests are encouraged to get involved in the celebrations of Anzac Day here in Sydney.
Anzac Day begins with the dawn service at 4.15am - 5.00am at the Cenotaph in Martin Place. At 9.30am the March starts and makes it way down George Street, on the corner of George and Bathursts streets massed pipes and drums will play at 1.15pm and the march will finish up at Hyde Park around 1.30pm.
In numerous pubs and bars around Sydney the game Two-up will be in full-swing on Anzac Day. This is a traditional Australian gambling game, involving a designated "Spinner" throwing 2 coins in the air. Players gamble on whether the coins will fall with both heads up, both tails up, or with one coin a head, and one a tail (known as 'odds')
