This Week at The Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney Hostel

The posters finally came DOWN and the paint finally went ON! Guests will undoubtably notice the difference with clean, fresh tones of the Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney signature blues and yellows adorn the walls in the Hostel reception and backpacker common areas.

An exciting excursion to Sydney Aquarium took place last wednesday for staff and some guests; lots of coool exhibits, the shark tunnel and touching pond! Definately a must see for everyone visiting sydney, conveniently located at Darling Harbour. Dont forget to ask reception for your free coupon that entitles you to 20% off admission! (this also includes Sydney Wildlife World full of unique Australian Animals and Sydney Tower's 'Skywalk').

A huge welcome to the newest member of the Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney Hostel team- Nicole! A local sydneysider and student herself, Nicole will be joining us at reception from this week and I'm sure is extremely keen to meet all of the Swagman family!

The Jolly Swagman Backpackers Sydney Hostel Kitchen will be closed this Thursday morning from 9:30 am for about 3-4 hours for industrial cleaning. Apologies for any inconvenience!

This Week In Sydney:

The Powerhouse Museum is currently presenting the 'Living in a sensory world: stories from people with blindness and low vision' exhibition with Vision Australia, giving visitors a window into the world of the blindness and low vision community and celebrates their achievements. The Powerhouse museum also has an impressive permanent collection often overlooked and definately worth checking out for any of you technical nerds!

Eveleigh Farmer's Market: New Weekly Saturday Farmers' Market
Held undercover in the historic building from 8am to 1pm. A great way to absorb traditional Sydney character by engaging with colourful locals and picking up everything from bargain bric-a-brac to the best fresh produce- pick up something yummy to cook in the Swagman's kitchen! Just behind Redfern Station

Sydney Sports:

A humilitaing defeat for Australia in the Bledislow Cup- the Wallabies went down to the All Blacks in a VERY rare case of New Zealand defeating Australia in something- thank god its only sport!

In cricket, Michael Clarke and Brad Haddin attempted an amazing escape with a fighting partnership at Lord's, undeterred by a succession of umpiring controversies - none bigger than the dubious catch to dismiss Phillip Hughes.

The Sydney Swans are having a tough season and need your support on the 1st of AUGUST against a very powerful ST KILDA - cheap tickets are available for Backpackers.

Sydney Weather:

It's great to see the weather finally clearing and even getting a bit warmer; so much so  that the soaring temperatures lead one of our british guests to loudly exclaim: "That's it! I'm taking my leggings off!". Not fgor long though, so definately make the most of it! This week's forecast:

Sydney Tip of the Week:

Many guests are enquiring about buses and prepaid services-

All buses departing from the Sydney CBD and soon Bondi Junction are now PREPAY. This means no tickets will be sold on buses between MON_FRI 7am-7pm. Tickets must be bought from retail outlets such as tobacconists, convenience stores etc. displaying a purple flag. Prepay saves time and money; especially if you by explorer or day passes or travel tens. Ask reception for more information. Note some services such as the 333 are PrePay for the whole route.

Did You Know ?:

The entire United Kingdom of Great Brtitain and Northern Ireland fits into the STATE of New South Wales 7 times!!!!!! This means a Sydneysider going skiing for the week drives a similar distance as an Shetlander from his Islands in the North Sea to all the way down to Cornwall! Aren't Australians lucky to have such sophisticated road infrastructure....
